Eddie Robinson – Bring back bodybuilding

Former IFBB/WBF bodybuilder Eddie Robinson was a very popular athlete in the 90’s.

Robinson has worked closely with the Weider family until his move to the WBF (World Bodybuilding Federation)

In a recent post on his official Facebook page, Eddie explained in detail the history of the WBF from its creation till the end.

The part that definitely stands out is how Robinson ends is article. Eddie Robinson attacks the IFBB and says “its time to bring old school bodybuilding back.”

Robinson looks to be suggesting that the WBF starts up again to offer a new direction for a number of bodybuilders.

At the moment, the NSL (Nspire Sports League) is trying to do this, but till now we have seen very few bodybuilders or other athletes crossing over.

This declaration by Eddie Robinson is surely going to upset a number of people in the NPC and IFBB ranks.

Vince McMahon folded the WBF in 1992 and decided to direct his focused more on the WWE after a lucrative buyout from Joe Weider not to compete against the IFBB and Weider Publications.
It has now been 17 years since the Multi Million Dollar WBF and during this time we have watch the IFBB became a circus act destroying bodybuilding per the original structure judged symmetry, Balance and esthetics, that has been lost in today’s IFBB men’s and women’s bodybuilding. Time to Bring Old School Back.

Who Remembers the (WBF) “World Bodybuilding Federation”

HISTORY:
1990 Vince McMahon created the Multi Million Dollar WBF as competition to the long established International Federation of BodyBuilders (IFBB). In 1990, He hired famed bodybuilding personality Tom Platz to oversee the publication.

The magazine secured a booth at the IFBB Mr. Olympia contest held on September 15, 1990 in Chicago. At the conclusion of that competition, the booth handed out press releases announcing the WBF’s formation. The press release stated that the WBF would “revamp professional bodybuilding with a new criteria having dramatic new events and the richest prize money in the history of the sport.” It also mentioned that Fred Hatfield, Tom Platz would be Director of Talent Development for the organization.

1991
McMahon announced at the company’s unveiling on January 30, 1991 in New York’s Plaza Hotel that the WBF had signed thirteen top IFBB competitors, to long-term contracts: Aaron Baker, Mike Christian, Vince Comerford, David Dearth, Berry DeMey, Johnnie Morant, Danny Padilla, Tony Pearson, Jim Quinn, Mike Quinn, Eddie Robinson, Gary Strydom, Lou Ferrigno and Troy Zuccolotto. The first competition aired June 15, 1991 live on pay-per-view from Atlantic City, New Jersey. Regis Philbin was brought in to co-host the event with McMahon and Bobby Heenan. The show was met with mixed reviews: critics noted that the WBF’s attempt at developing characters for each BodyStar went against Vince McMahon’s initial promise to keep professional wrestling away from bodybuilding. To promote the show, both the WBF BodyStars and the WWF Superstars who appeared on a series of Family Feud episodes.

1992
McMahon made a deal with Lou Ferrigno, to bring him in as a competitor. He was billed as “The Legend” Lou Ferrigno, and a contender for Gary Strydom’s WBF Championship.
