2022 Men’s 212 Bodybuilding Olympia: Shaun Clarida wins.
Shaun Clarida has won back his 212 Men’s Bodybuilding Olympia title at the 2022 Olympia Weekend.
The finals were unfortunately disappointing, due to the fact only the top five competitors were selected to perform their posing routines.
The top ten stepped on stage for a very quick comparison, with the fans expecting to be entertained by ten posing routines. Unfortunately, due to the over 400 athletes who qualified for the Olympia Weekend, the heart of the competition, Men’s Bodybuilding is suffering.
It’s a shame that the rest of the top ten competitors, who prepared all year perfecting their posing routines, could not show the fans the final result of their hard work.
Shaun Clarida was the clear winner, presenting an incredible 3D physique, with the perfect balance of size and condition.
It was evident from the moment Carida stepped on stage, that he would be the man to beat.
Second place went to Angel Calderon Frias, which was somewhat of a controversial result.
Angel had a very close battle with Kamal Elgargni, who looked to have second place confirmed, but the judges had other plans.
Angel Calderon Frias was also very conditioned and displayed slightly more size than the winner Shaun Clarida. As with many top bodybuilding events, size does not always guarantee victory, and Angel found this out against the slightly smaller Carida.
Former 212 Men’s Olympia champion, Kamal Elgargni, unfortunately, had to settle for third. Kamal could have easily placed in second, and this will surely be debated heavily in the next few days.
At 51, Kamal proved that he can compete against bodybuilders more than half his age. Kamal can easily add another Sandoe trophy to his collection if he decided to compete at the 2023 Master Olympia in Romania.
Veteran Ahmad Ashkanani had to settle for fourth. Ahmad can at least be happy that he moved up two places from the 2021 Olympia, where he finished in sixth.
Ahmad had the size, but the top three defeated him in conditioning.
Finally, Oleh Kryvyi finished the event in fifth place. Just as all the rest of the competitors, size was not the problem, condition was the main factor from placing tenth to first.
