Melissa Bumstead arrested for importing steroids.
Melissa Bumstead, the wife of pro bodybuilder Iain Valliere and sister of 2X Classic Physique Olympia champion Chris Bumstead has been allegedly arrested.
According to reports, Melissa Bumstead received a package from Canada. Homeland Security Investigations worked with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office to set up a controlled delivery to a home in Palm City where Bumstead lived.
Melissa Kate Bumstead, 30, was arrested Friday after Martin County Sheriff’s Office investigators said she was listed as an “importer” of the drugs from a shipper in Montreal, Quebec. She was arrested on six felony counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.
According to the arrest report, agents with Customs and Border Protection seized a package, mailed from Canada and destined for Palm City, at a facility in Memphis on Sep. 1. The manifest for the package said it contained vitamins, massage oil, and a T-shirt. A search of the package, however, revealed multiple vials and packages of factory-sealed and labeled steroids and other medication.
Melissa Bumstead was released Sept. 11 from the Martin County Jail, according to a jail official. The bond amount was not available.
A person who answered a phone number listed for Melissa Bumstead on an arrest report declined to comment Tuesday.
It is not known who the package was for Melissa’s husband Iain Valliere who is preparing to compete at the Arnold Classic and the Olympia Weekend in just a few weeks.
Until publishing this article, there has been no confirmation if the NPC/Pro League will take any action against Melissa regarding these charges.
Contrary to what was reported in various media, Melissa and Iain are registered athletes with the NPC/Pro League run by Jim Manion. They both absolutely have no affiliation with Rafael Santonja’s IFBB International.
