Athleticon canceled for 2020

Athleticon canceled for 2020…rescheduled for October 2021.

The Rock and Dany Garcia have finally broke their silence about Athleticon, the event that was scheduled to take place on October 2021.

Just a day before their big announcement, Evolutionofbodybuilding.net published an article criticizing their lack of communication with the athletes and fans.

The main people behind Athleticon are Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Dany Garcia and former Olympia promoter Robin Chang.

Obviously before news was made official about the rescheduling of Athleticon, the majority of media that are loyal only to the NPC did not mention anything about this event.

The obvious reason is that they are scared they will be treated badly when it comes to press passes or anything else relevant to a show.

Evolutionofbodybuilding.net does not work this way, the athletes and fans have the right to know what is happening in the industry without being bullied into not publishing an article.

Getting back to Athleticon, the last official news published from the organizers was last February, over three months ago.

While the majority of competitions and events were either being rescheduled or canceled, the Athleticon organizers decided to keep silent.

Many athletes were left in the dark, especially the amateurs that wanted to compete at Athleticon’s NPCworldwide International Championships.

The athletes had to make some big decisions with some of them being out of work and not being able to train properly due to the coronavirus threat. Without any concrete information, the majority would not have traveled to the USA to compete.

The ICON World Classic is another event that was scheduled to take place at Athleticon.

If the event took place in 2020, Pro League athletes would have seen this as another opportunity to qualify for the 2020 Olympia Weekend.

Since the 2020 Olympia Weekend is not taking place in September and moved to December, Pro athletes would have seen this as their last chance to qualify for the Olympia Weekend.

The last day to qualify for the 2020 Olympia Weekend has been extended to October 18, 2020.

This has all ended now with Athleticon being cancelled and rescheduled for 2021 and most probably being a 2022 Olympia Weekend qualifier, if the 2021 Olympia Weekend goes back to its original date in September.

Today (18-5-2020), the Athleticon organizers published a press release notifying all athletes and fans about the new date of the event.

The event was rescheduled to 9-10 October, 2021.
