big ramy 2020 olympia

Big Ramy looks forward to 2021… uncertain about the 2020 Mr. Olympia.

A lot has happened in 2020 in regards to the sport of bodybuilding.

The Covid-19 crisis has practically wiped out the entire competition season, with many of the top competitors without a gym to train at.

One of the top bodybuilders Mamdouh Mohammed Hassan Elssbiay or better known as Big Ramy has been missing from the spotlight for quite some time.

After placing second to Phil Heath in 2017, Big Ramy could not get back the condition that almost won him the prestigious Mr. Olympia title.

Some minor injuries have kept Big Ramy from training at full capacity in the years that followed.

His best result in 2020 was third at the Arnold Classic, USA.

For the 2020 contest season, Big Ramy teamed up with Chad Nicholls to hopefully push him to be his best and challenge Brandon Curry for the Mr. Olympia title.

As Big Ramy was starting to gain momentum, the coronavirus threat kept him away from the gym to end up training at home.

This sidelined Big Ramy as he cannot reach his full potential by just training at home.

In his latest video on YouTube, Big Ramy explains that for the most part, he has been spending quarantine in various parts of the UAE.

Right now, he is relaxing at a hotel owned by a friend of his. The video shows Big Ramy and his friends taking a tour of the hotel, seeing the different parts of the facility and the gym.

Big Ramy said “After the quarantine, nobody could train at any gym. It’s breaking the rules in the country. But I have a friend that gave me some equipment and I tried to train at home.”

Will Big Ramy will be competing in 2020? Big Ramy did not give a definitive answer.

He explained that his original plan was to compete at the Olympia. However with him not having qualified yet, this will likely not happen, leaving him sitting out until next year.

Big Ramy explained “Me and Chad (Nicholls) talked after the quarantine, he said we need to stay in shape because we need to be ready for anything to happen for a show. He’s excited for the future, and me too. I’m really excited for the next show. It would be Mr. Olympia, but I have to qualify first and I don’t know exactly which show I would be able to do that. But I’m really excited for next year.”

Big Ramy is looking in good condition, but at the same time he does look like he lost some size.

If Big Ramy decides not to compete in 2020, it will surely be a big loss for the 2020 Mr. Olympia.

Looking ahead, Big Ramy will have a lot of time to prepare and get his qualification out of the way for the 2021 Mr. Olympia.
