Bodybuilding fitness mourn Pereira

Bodybuilding and fitness world mourn the death of Christine Pereira.

The bodybuilding and fitness world is shocked after hearing the news about the passing of IFBB Pro Figure athlete Christine Pereira. Christine peacefully passed away in her sleep on Friday, October 23, 2020.

Evolutionofbodybuilding.net contacted Christine’s boyfriend Paul de Robertis (Thanks to Milos Sarcev) and he was so kind to give this website the full story about Christine’s life during such a difficult moment.

Christine was one of the most inspirational athletes in the industry. Not only did she motivate anybody that knew her to fight and beat any obstacle, but she was also a ‘warrior’ for cancer patients. She created her Instagram page @fitness_after_cancer to motivate and spread hope to the world.

From stage 4 cancer to the pro competition stage

Christine’s boyfriend and business partner, the new owner of Strong and Shapely Gym @strongandshapely Paul de Robertis, told this website how Christine was diagnosed with terminal stage 4 head and neck cancer eight years ago. At the time it was discovered, oncologists only gave her approximately three to six months to live. Any normal person would have been devastated after hearing such news, but Christine, the warrior she was, managed to beat the deadly disease and any other obstacle that came her way. She was merely 75 pounds after a dozen rounds of radiation that locked her jaw but the chemotherapy surprisingly eradicated the cancer. For over a year after she was in remission, she fought life without vision, hearing, and extreme difficulty in speaking.

But it doesn’t stop there, now imagine hearing doctors telling you that you have necrosis of the jaw and the only option is to remove your bottom jaw. In the desperate position she was in, Christine studied how divers use Hyperbaric Chambers to oxygenate their body and that this therapy may help promote blood flow to save her jaw. Because this option of treatment was considered “cosmetic” to her doctor’s practice, she undoubtedly closed her very successful specialty cake business in New Jersey @_designcakes to take the chance in affording these hyperbaric chamber treatments which thankfully worked!

She then forced herself to regain the strength to open her mouth enough to swallow liquids in order to have her doctors remove her feeding tube. She continued to defy the odds and regained her hearing and then gained the strength to walk; then do one pushup and another and that is when her newfound passion in health and fitness started.

Christine resorted back to her childhood years in Portugal where she would help her older brother Serge, by spotting him and translating bodybuilding magazines word by word with a Portuguese/English dictionary. She figured if bodybuilders drink weight gainers to gain weight, then why drink Ensure that her doctors prescribed. Well the rest was history, she competed in a local NPC show in June of 2018, won every class she competed in, and came home with two overall trophies in Bikini and Figure and then naturally turned IFBB Pro four weeks later at the NPC Universe. Paul even reminded us that the very next day after she turned pro, she won a cooking contest at the Culinary Institute of America in upstate New York.

Not only did Christine beat a terrible battle with cancer and still excel with her day job as an executive chef and baker, but she managed to step on the IFBB Pro stage in 2018 and 2019 as an IFBB Pro Figure competitor. Christine competed at the 2018 Tampa Pro and 2019 New York Pro. Stepping on a pro stage is already a very difficult task, but fighting back after doctors tell her she has only months to live is just incredible, and to her it was effortless.

Immediately after hearing the news of her death, bodybuilding legend, Milos Sarcev left an emotional post on his official Instagram page.

“I am absolutely crushed with the news that my friend Paulie told me about his girlfriend, Christine @fitness_after_cancer, I had pleasure of meeting and training last year, passed away in her sleep last Friday. She was the ultimate warrior who beat terminal stage 4 cancer 8 years ago and numerous other adversities that came her way. Absolutely full of love for life and undeniable angelic presence to her, energetic, beyond positive, giving and trying to shine the light and make a difference in everyone’s life that crosses her path. As Paulie @pauliedero said: “She was a miracle and an angel with destiny to send love and hope to others” and she did that in the best possible way. I am privileged to have experienced her. Return to Heavens you came from Christine and continue shining that light. All of us that met you will forever feel it. 🙏🏻❤️ Rest in Peace Christine @fitness_after_cancer. My sincere condolences to your family and loved ones. – Milos Sarcev

Evolutionofbodybuilding.net contacted Christine’s boyfriend Paul de Robertis @pauliedero and he said “Christine made her Instagram page to promote hope to cancer patients and anyone who lost the will to push past obstacles. It’s just so sad she was suddenly taken away, it is completely devastating.”

Paul is absolutely devastated and left a number of heartfelt messages on his Instagram page.

This is the hardest thing for me to say. An angel @fitness_after_cancer came into my life and God took her yesterday morning. Christine lived a very private life, yet filled everyone’s heart she touched with endless love. She created her Instagram to give hope to cancer patients. One of her favorite quotes is from Gandhi “Be the change you wish to see in the world” and she forever changed many including myself. She is the reason for so many people’s happiness. She always smiled and laughed and was the absolute sweetest thing in my life. She loved me beyond unconditional and I will forever carry her heart inside mine. These are only a few photos of her beautiful smile and I’ll never ever forget you. I always knew you were an angel sent from Heaven. I love you with all of my heart. Paul de Robertis

We would like to thank Milos Sarcev for connecting this website to Paul to get the full inspirational story about Christine.

Evolutionofbodybuilding.net would like to express our sincere condolences to Christine’s family and friends during this difficult time.
