Bodybuilding world continues to mourn the death of Tonya Knight.
One of the most popular female bodybuilders from the 80’s and 90’s, Tonya Knight, passed away earlier this week at the age of 56.
Tonya was battling cancer for the last couple of years, to finally pass away on 7 February, 2023.
Tonya was not only one of the most popular female bodybuilders, but she was one of the most popular members of the Gladiators, from the popular TV show, American Gladiators.
Tonya played the character Gold from 1989-1992 until she left due to a shoulder injury.
Her beauty matched with her balanced physique, helped her become a fan favorite throughout the fitness industry. Tonya was of the most photographed athletes, gracing the top bodybuilding and fitness magazines.
Tonya made her pro debut at the 1988 Pro World Championships, where she placed fifth.
Her bodybuilding career was not without controversy, she was disqualified after placing fourth st the 1988 Ms. Olympia and finishing first at the 1989 Ms. International at the Arnold Classic. The disqualifications were due to failing drug tests at the time.
Returning to the stage in 1991, Tonya had a very successful run, winning the 1991 Italian Grand Prix, and the 1991 Ms. International.
Her final competition would be the 1993 Jan Tana Classic; she finished in third.
