Competitive bodybuilding challenging ruthless

Competitive bodybuilding can be very challenging and ruthless.

The sport of bodybuilding can be challenging and ruthless, especially in the professional circuit.

Sometimes it seems some athletes cannot get a break, situations crop up that destroy their dreams and plans.

Let’s take a look at Italian professional bodybuilding champion, Andrea Presti, who represents his home country Italy.

Evolutionofbodybuilding.net witnessed Andrea earn his pro card in 2017 in Malta, and it was evident this kid had a great future ahead of him in the sport of professional bodybuilding.

Andrea has an incredible physique, and on a normal day, he can easily win a competition and qualify for the Mr. Olympia, as he did in previous years.

Unfortunately for Andrea, his goal to achieve qualification for the 2024 Mr. Olympia was derailed after he placed second at three consecutive events.

It all started in Milan on September 8, 2024, when Andrea was a clear favorite to win the ProMuscle event. Unfortunately for Andrea, Hunter Labrada left it late to qualify for the 2024 Mr. Olympia and traveled to Milan to compete in this event.

Hunter went on to win the event, with Presti finishing a very close second. But it was not a walkover by Hunter Labrada, as weeks after the show took place, bodybuilding pundits still believe that Andrea could have easily won the event.

Andrea was much more conditioned than Hunter, and many might not agree with this, but Andrea looked more complete and contest-ready.

Being the son of bodybuilding legend Lee Labrada should not entitle Hunter to any preferences from the judges, but how would the bodybuilding world react if Andrea defeated Hunter at this event?

The second event took place in the UK, where Andrea was again a definite favorite to win and earn his 2024 Mr. Olympia qualification. This was the last chance for Andrea to qualify for the 2024 Mr. Olympia.

Andrea was winning the show after pre-judging took place, but something happened in the finals that gave Bruno Santos the edge who then went on to edge past Presti to win the show and earn his 2024 Mr. Olympia qualification.

Andrea had to settle for second place for the second consecutive time, knowing his chances to qualify for the 2024 Mr. Olympia were over, but he still did not give up.

With his 2024 Mr. Olympia qualification dreams destroyed, Andrea now had to focus on winning the Tsunami Nutrition Showdown in France, to earn his early qualification for the 2025 Mr. Olympia.

Everything was looking great, Andrea was the favorite to win the event, but everything was turned upside down just days before the event in France took place.

One of Derek Lunsford’s main challengers for his Mr. Olympia title, Samson Dauda, decided to enter the event in France.

This was a risky move for Samson, as many things could have gone wrong for him, but as predicted, Samson won the event and earned his 2025 Mr. Olympia qualification.

Andrea, again, had to settle for second place to one of the top bodybuilders in the world at the moment, putting his early 2025 Mr. Olympia dreams on hold.

After all these ups and downs, Andrea can now rest and make a plan with his coach to qualify for the 2025 Mr. Olympia.

The mental strength to battle adversity

The events that we all witnessed with Andrea having to settle for second on three consecutive occasions, is not something new in the sport of professional bodybuilding.

If we look back at the history of the sport, several other bodybuilders had a very difficult task in reaching their goal, with some unfortunately never achieving it.

One great example is Bob Cicherillo, who took 13 years to achieve his goal of earning his pro status within the Pro League. How many amateur bodybuilders would do that today?

Then we have the “Real Deal” Chris Cormier, who placed second at the Arnold Classic six consecutive times, and unfortunately for Cormier, he never won the event. But even though Chris did not win the event, he continued to fight till the end.

Jay Cutler is another bodybuilder who had an uphill battle. He placed second to Ronnie Coleman on four occasions before he won the Mr. Olympia title in 2006.

Andrea Presti has to look at his 2024 competitive season and build on it, coming back stronger in 2025. Andrea has a great coach, and everything in place to continue to succeed in his bodybuilding career.

Andrea gives a lot back, visiting sick children, and other activities to help the public, he has a lot to be proud of.
