“European Championships will take place as planned” – Rafael Santonja

The second wave of Covid-19 seems to have started all across the world.

The USA has been ravaged with the new wave on infections all over the country.

The USA is not alone as parts of Europe such as Spain and France are also revealing they the number of infections have rised.

At the end of August, the IFBB Malta Diamond Cup and IFBB Elite Pro show will be taking place in Malta.

The Maltese government has relaxed the majority of protocols and the show will go on as scheduled according to IFBB Malta President Ralph Decelis.

Regarding the main even in September, the 2020 IFBB European Championships, many athletes have contacted about the current situation.

This site contacted IFBB President Dr. Rafael Santonja and asked him about the situation of the European championships.

Dr Santonja took the time from his busy schedule to answer us.

“Hi Kevin, all is fine, all the precautions to provide a safe event in Santa Susanna are in place,” Santonja confirmed.

“The IFBB is working with the City Hall and following the strict Government protocols. Entrance and exit locations are separated, while all facilities and backstage will be cleaned every hour,” he said.

“Temperature control will be at all entrances, weigh-in and open areas. The IFBB Medical commission will be overseeing the entire process.”

“The IFBB did all the work and followed all protocols to keep everybody safe, and all attendees can feel confident at the event. At the same time we will follow any new developments and adobt accordingly,” concluded Dr. Santonja.

The IFBB earlier this week released the official document stating all the protocols they are following.

The 2020 IFBB European Championships is scheduled to take place 15-21 September, 2020.

This event is open to all EBFF affiliated National Federation from Europe and Israel.

Points will be awarded to the top finishing athletes that go towards the 2020 IFBB World Ranking system.

IFBB Elite Pro cards will also be awarded to the top finishing athletes.
