“I was told I had two to three years to live” – Dolph Lundgren

Dolph Lundgren, the popular movie star, and Karate champion, has revealed that he has been battling cancer since 2015.

The star of the Rocky franchise, revealed his cancer nightmare on the show, In Depth with Graham Bensinger.

The ordeal started in 2015, when doctors found a tumor in Lundgren’s kidney.

The biopsy results indicated that the tumor was cancerous, which the doctors removed immediately.

“They found a tumor. They didn’t know what it was – just a tumor in my kidney. And they took it out here in LA in 2015 but then they did a biopsy and it was cancerous,” Lundgren said.

From 2015 to 2020, Lundgren lived a normal life, until everything turned upside down, when his health turned for the worse.

Lundgren started to suffer from Acid Reflux, and proceeded to have more tests done, which resulted in more tumors being found in the same area, as in 2015.

The doctors immediately took Lundgren in for surgery, and removed six more tumors.

Following his second surgery, Lundgren was in a positive mood, “It’s the day after my surgery. They took out one tumor, then they took out another two they found and another three small ones. Hopefully it’s cleaned out. If it dies, it dies!”

Lundgren went on with his daily life, and continued to work, directing, and starring in his own film, until he received a phone call from his doctor.

A new test revealed that Lundgren, developed a large “lemon” sized cancerous tumor in his liver. Unfortunately, the doctor explained to the action star, that it was too big to be removed.

The doctors suggested that Lundgren undergoes Systemic Therapy, which had some terrible side effects on the actor.

“If they can’t take it out, that means you have to do systemic therapy. But then I started to get side effects, I got diarrhea and I lost a lot of weight,” he explained.

While working on his films in 2021, the doctors suggested that Lundgren should take some time off, and spend it will his family.

Lundgren was in shock, when the doctors told him he had two to three years to live. This news forced Lundgren to finally get a second opinion.

After not hearing from the doctors, Lundgren started to realize they had no hope for him.

Lundgren went on to get a second opinion, and additional treatment to curb the decline. Thanks to Santa Monica-based oncologist Dr. Alexandra Drakaki’s guidance, Dolph Lundgren went through another round of biopsy. The procedure helped uncover the mutation which allowed him to heal through medication.

Thanks to the new medications, the large tumor shrunk in size, giving hope to Lundgren.

Dolph Lundgren emphasized that it’s very important to appreciate life, and family.

An emotional Lundgren, begged the viewers to always get a second opinion, as if he didn’t, he would not be here today.

Lundgren was, and still is thankful that he lived “five” lives, with all his success, and he admitted in the interview, that he was mentally ready to accept death.
