IFBB Mr. International event returns after 40 year absence.
The IFBB is organizing the 2022 Mr. & Ms. International event, 10-12 June, 2022. This historic event returns after over 40 years.
The Mr. & Ms. International events was last organized by the IFBB in 1981. Originally called Mr. International, three different organizations organized their own versions of this contest.
The AAU, were the first organization to organize the Mr. International contest in 1965. Gable Boudreaux was the overall winner for this event.
The AAU went on to organize this event in 1965, 1987 and 1988.
In 1966, the IFBB organized their first Mr. International event, this would be the first of many. Don Peters was the first overall winner in 1966. The IFBB continued to run this event till 1981, some of the most popular bodybuilders, in the history of the sport have won this event, under the IFBB flag.
Legends such as Frank Zane, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Boyer Coe, Ken Waller, Lou Ferrigno, Mohamed Makkawy, Robby Robinson, Andreas Cahling and many more have won this event with the IFBB.
The third organization that organized this event was the WBBG. The Mr. International event was only organzed by the WBBG in 1968, 1974 and finally in 1975. Warren Frederick won the first overall title in 1968.
The IFBB resurrects the Mr. & Ms. International returns in 2022
After over 40 years missing from the competition calendar, the first move by the IFBB was to rename the Mr. International to Mr. & Ms. International, due to the numerous female categories included in the event.
Gone are the days of bodybuilding and fitness being a male dominated sport.
IFBB President Dr. Rafael Santonja and IFBB Executive/show promoter Jose Ramos have decided to bring this historic event back to the IFBB competition calendar for the 2022 season.
This will be a three day even from 10-12 June, 2022. The IFBB will be including all bodybuilding and fitness disciplines and as well the IFBB Elite Pro Mr. & Ms. Europa Pro show.
The venue will be in Santa Susanna, Barcelona, Spain. The premises is a professional sport center, that is also the home of the IFBB European Championships and also was the venue for the Arnold Classic Europe.
Winners of the their respective divisions will also earn their IFBB Elite Pro status. This would give the opportunity to the athletes to compete in IFBB’s pro circuit.
Athletes from IFBB’s 203 affiliated countries, all have the opportunity to compete at this prestigious event, with the hope of adding their name to the long list of champions.
