Lee Priest opens up about depression and suicide.
Lee Priest is one of the most outspoken characters in the bodybuilding world, but he also can reveal a serious side, especially when he wants to talk about an important subject that can affect many lives.
In a recent interview on the Muscle Talks Podcast, Lee Priest discussed his entire bodybuilding career and his personal life.
At the end of the interview, the host Steven Giourgis, asked Lee Priest to give his thoughts about depression.
Lee had no problem talking about the subject, and in fact, revealed his own experience with depression, which almost ended his life.
Priest revealed that when he was 19, he just won an event, and he was not awarded his pro card, as they accused him of failing a drug test when he wasn’t.
At that time in his life, Lee Priest said he was living at the back of a gym and was in a really bad mental state.
The majority of people who are outside of the bodybuilding circle, have no idea how sensitive a bodybuilder can be, especially when they are on a strict diet, or did not get the result they hoped for at an event.
Depression is a big problem in the bodybuilding world, especially with athletes that use a lot of PEDs, and other recreational substances.
In the past few years, the bodybuilding industry has lost several top athletes due to depression, with the athlete taking their own life.
Lee continued to explain that being alone is the worst thing when you are depressed and have suicidal thoughts.
Luckily for Lee, he did not have a gun, as he would not be around today, he continued to explain that he attempted to slash his wrists but stopped when it started to hurt.
Lee’s advice is that if you ever feel depressed, or are in a bad mental state, the best solution is to talk to a friend and try not to be alone.
There is no shame in opening up and talking to a friend or family. Lee went on to explain that even petting a dog or cat can make a person suffering from depression feel better, and avoid doing something terrible.
