“Mighty” Mike Quinn passes away

“Mighty” Mike Quinn passes away.

The entire bodybuilding world is in mourning, with the horrible news of “Mighty” Mike Quinn’s passing at the age of 61.

The news of Mike Quinn‘s death was confirmed by his sister Kellie Quinn, on her Facebook page.

“After a long illness, my brother Mike, a.k.a. “Mighty Mike Quinn”, has received his angel wings.”
“Michael touched many lives, and will be missed.”
“We’ll love you always,” Kellie.

According Kellie, Mike was suffering from a long illness, but she refrained from revealing the exact cause of death.

Bodybuilding fans in their late 40’s or 50’s, will definitely remember Mike Quinn, when he was in his prime.

Mike competed in various federations, which included the AAU, NABBA, IFBB, and finally the WBF.

Starting his amateur bodybuilding career in his teens, Mike was already making a name for himself, by winning the 1981 AAU Teen Mr. America Overall title.

The next victory for Mike would be in 1984, when he would go on to win the NABBA Mr. Universe Medium Class title.

The highlight of Mike Quinn’s career, was when he won the 1987 NPC USA Championships Overall title in 1987.

Mike would go on to have a very successful professional bodybuilding career, placing in the top five at the majority of shows he participated in.

Mike’s highest placing at the Mr. Olympia, would be in 1988, when he finished in sixth place.

In 1991, Mike would switch to the now defunct WBF (World Bodybuilding Federation), which was an extension on the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment).

A number of bodybuilders, including Mike Quinn, were tired of the alleged politics within the IFBB Pro League. They believed they would have a better career within the WBF.

The bodybuilders that switched to the WBF, were offered lucrative contracts by owner, Vince McMahon.

The WBF did not last long, and Mike managed to return back to the IFBB, but his best years were behind him.

Mike managed to place fifth at the 1994 Night of the Champions, but his remaining contests would have horrible results.

The bad boy of bodybuilding

Mike Quinn was one of the most exciting bodybuilders during his prime. He was a crowd favorite, thanks to his exciting posing routines.

Never keeping silent, Mike would speak his mind, on anything that he believed was wrong in the sport.

Mike also had numerous confrontations with a number of bodybuilders, at the gym, and during events.

After retiring from the sport, Mike was interviewed by a number of bodybuilding media outlets, and he expressed his concern about the sport of bodybuilding.

Mike was very critical of how much steroids the younger bodybuilders are taking, and the way the modern day bodybuilders trains.
