2024 IFBB World Bodybuilding Championships heading to Iran.

The IFBB is the world’s biggest bodybuilding federation, with over 200 affiliated national federations organizing thousands of events annually.

One of IFBB’s most prestigious events is the IFBB World Bodybuilding Championships, formerly known as the IFBB Mr. Universe.

The IFBB World Bodybuilding Championships, attracts the best amateur athletes in the world, with the goal of winning one of bodybuilding’s most prestigious amateur titles.

Founded in 1946, the IFBB immediately established itself as the world’s biggest and most prestigious bodybuilding federation.

It did not take long for the IFBB to establish itself with bodybuilding’s world-famous events, such as the IFBB Mr. Universe, IFBB European Championships, and then the IFBB World Bodybuilding Championships.

The IFBB Mr. Universe was first organized in 1959, in Montreal, Canada. The event continued to be organized under the Mr. Universe title until 1977.

The IFBB organized their first IFBB Mr. Universe contest in 1959. The name ‘Mr. Universe’ would be used by the IFBB until 1977.

Bodybuilding legend Robby Robinson would win the last IFBB Mr. Universe overall title in 1976. In 1977, Danny Padilla won the IFBb Mr. Universe Lightweight title, Roy Callendar won the Middleweight title, and finally, Kalman Szkalak defeated Mike Mentzer to win the Heavyweight title.

The most popular bodybuilder in the world, Arnold Schwarzenegger, won the overall title of this event in 1969.

The IFBB then decided to replace the Mr. Universe contest with the IFBB World Amateur Championships. This contest would become the world’s biggest and most prestigious amateur contest in the history of the sport.

The most popular bodybuilders from the 1980’s to 2023 have competed at the IFBB World Amateur Championships.

It must be noted that the IFBB Mr. Universe and the IFBB World Amateur Championships are amateur events.

In 1978, Ben Weider, decided to change the name from IFBB Mr. Universe to the IFBB World Championships, and it has been running under that name till the present day.

Fast forward to 2024, the IFBB World Bodybuilding Championships still attract thousands of athletes to this great event. It’s a title that every amateur athlete dreams of winning.

2024 IFBB World Men’s Bodybuilding Championships – Iran

If you follow bodybuilding closely, you must have heard how difficult it is for some athletes to travel to certain countries, especially the USA, to compete at major events.

Some athletes have lost several opportunities to win prestigious titles, because of strict decisions made due to politics and wars that are taking place in several parts of the world.

Unfortunately for the athlete, they end up suffering, after months of training and diet, to be told that they cannot travel to the event they dreamed of competing in.

If the athletes are restricted from traveling to a competition, why not bring it to them? And that is exactly what the IFBB did.

IFBB President Dr. Rafael Santonja continues to lead the IFBB, expanding its events all over the world, continuing the vision and dream of former IFBB President, the late Ben Weider.

There is no discrimination at IFBB’s events, every athlete is equal, regardless of race, religion, or political beliefs. The IFBB is a sports federation and not a government organization.

The 2024 edition of IFBB’s World Bodybuilding Championships, will be taking place in Iran, 23-28 September 2024, at the modern Olympic Sport Complex, Kish Island, Iran.

The Iranian Federation is one of IFBB’s largest, organizing events at the highest level during the busy contest season.

Headed by Dr. Abdolmahdi Nasirzadeh, the president of the Iranian Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation, continues to open opportunities for local athletes, while welcoming athletes from all over the world.

Iran will not only be hosting the 2024 IFBB World Bodybuilding Championships, but the IFBB World Congress will also be taking place, with IFBB representatives from all over the world, discussing new rules and events for the coming years.

As with all IFBB International events, the event will be an IFBB Elite Pro qualifier, awarding pro cards to the top placing athletes in Men’s Bodybuilding, Men’s Master Bodybuilding, Men’s Classic Bodybuilding, Men’s Physique, Men’s Muscular Physique, and Men’s Classic Physique.

With the event taking place in Iran, this opens more opportunities for athletes to compete on the world stage, expanding the sport of bodybuilding to every corner of the world.

Iran has a history of producing some of the best bodybuilders in the history of the sport, gaining experience thanks to IFBB’s events.

Earlier this year, the IFBB organized the IFBB Mr. Universe Amateur and IFBB Elite Pro events in Iran.

This event was very successful and was a preview of what is to come this September for the IFBB World Bodybuilding Championships.

All athletes start their bodybuilding careers at the local level, to then move up to National and then International events.

Success cannot be rushed, especially in bodybuilding, which takes years of training to perfect the physique of the athlete. The IFBB offers opportunities worldwide to give the new and veteran athletes the opportunity to compete.
