The 2024 Mr. Olympia Open Bodybuilding – Who’s qualified?

The 2024 Mr. Olympia is just around the corner, taking place at the Resorts World, Las Vegas, 10-13 October 2024.

This edition of the Mr. Olympia will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of this event, so we can expect a special event from the owner, Jake Wood, and Olympia Weekend President, Dan Solomon.

Focussing on Men’s Open Bodybuilding, the highlight of the entire weekend, 19 of the world’s best bodybuilders have qualified for this prestigious event.

Of the 19 qualified athletes, 16 have confirmed that they will be traveling to Vegas, while two, Nathan De Asha and Tonio Burton, have confirmed that they will not be competing, and one competitor, Behrooz Tabani, is still waiting for his VISA to travel to the USA.

With less than three weeks to go before the event begins, the defending champion Derek Lunsford is looking to be on course to defend his title.

Breathing down Lunsford’s neck will be 2022 Mr. Olympia champion, Hadi Choopan, who some believe can wrestle the title away from Lunsford.

Coach Hany Rambod will be in a very difficult situation since he is the coach of Lunsford and Choopan.

The next bodybuilders to keep an eye on are Samson Dauda, Nick Walker, and Andrew Jacked.

Samson Dauda made some major improvements from his two consecutive second-place finishes at the Arnold Classic USA and UK against Hadi Choopan.

Samson will not have Milos Sarcev on his team this year, choosing his wife to take over the coaching duties. The majority of bodybuilding pundits believe that if Samson brings more condition to the stage, he can challenge for the Olympia title and shock Lunsford and Choopan. Samson has the size, he just needs to get the chiseled look.

Nick Walker is also a bodybuilder who can shock his fellow competitors and fight for a top-three finish.

Walker had to skip the 2023 Mr. Olympia due to a serious leg injury, but he bounced back and won his second New York Pro to qualify for the 2024 Mr. Olympia. Nick is known for being one of the thickest and most conditioned bodybuilders on the stage, and if he does come in this condition, he can destroy the dreams of some of his fellow competitors.

Andrew Jacked left it late to qualify, but he won his third consecutive Texas Pro to earn his qualification for the 2024 Mr. Olympia.

Andrew has the freakish 3D look and is one of the biggest athletes in the line-up. Andrew can also cause trouble to all the athletes. Saying he can win the event would put unecessary pressure on him, as he has a few more years before he can challenge for the title. Andrew has the genetics to win the Mr. Olympia, but he still has to add more muscle to his large frame.

Brandon Curry won the Mr. Olympia in 2019, and he has been placing in the top-five consistently since then. Brandon is always a threat since he has one of the most pleasing physiques on the stage. Brandon has great aesthetics and the right balance of size. If any of the top athletes slip, Brandon will be there to take advantage.

Rafael Brandao will easly place in the top 10. Just like Brandon Curry, Rafael has a very balanced and aesthetic physique. Rafael is not the biggest or hardest bodybuilder on stage, but he has a great physique that the judges might give the nod to.

Hunter Labrada and William Bonac are another two bodybuilders who will be ready to crack the top five.

This could be Bonac’s last Mr. Olympia, unless he decides to put his body through another season of competition. At 42 years of age, each year will become more difficult and Bonac will have to decide on his future.

Hunter Labrada has great shape and size. His biggest problem is arriving in razor-sharp condition. Hunter has added more quality size to his physique and will be fighting for a top-five placing.

The rest of the field, Theo Leguerrier, Martin Fitzwater, Akim Williams, John Jewett, Mohamed Foda, Jonathan Delarosa, and Bruno Santos will all be fighting for the rest of the placings.

The 2024 Mr. Olympia will be a headache for the judges, as every competitor can arrive in fantastic condition.

While Tonio Burton and Nathan De Asha have decided to skip this event, the bodybuilding world is waiting anxiously if Behrouz Tabani will get his VISA to enter the USA.

Regardless of who wins, this event will be a special one, with a great celebration of 60 years of bodybuilding history.
