Bob Cicherillo and Shawn Ray criticize Breon Ansley for revealing drug protocols

Cicherillo Shawn criticize Breon

Bob Cicherillo and Shawn Ray criticize Breon Ansley for revealing drug protocols.

Should bodybuilders or influencers reveal their drug protocols? This question has been debated on several media channels, with nobody agreeing on whether they should be shown.

In one of his latest YouTube videos, Breon Ansley, two-time Classic Physique Olympia winner, revealed the drug protocols he used for the 2024 Olympia Weekend.

Breon has every right to publish what he wants on his own YouTube channel, but as a two-time Classic Physique Olympia winner, thousands of young athletes will listen to what he says and try to replicate what he does, even his drug use.

Breon’s video has made its rounds, with over 48,000 views at the time this article was published.

Two people who watched this video, and decided to express their opinion about it, is “Athletes Rep” Bob Cicherillo, and bodybuilding legend, Shawn Ray.

Now, if the owner and editor of Evolutionofbodybuilding.net criticized Breon for revealing his drug protocols, the entire bodybuilding world would have called this website out for being negative.

Bob Cicherillo represents the NPC and Pro League, and as an “Athletes Rep”, he must have leverage on certain aspects of the organization, and if he criticizes something, it will be noticed by the people that run the organization.

Bob Cicherillo and Shawn Ray give their opinion

On Bob Cicherillo’s latest podcast on the Voice of Bodybuilding YouTube channel, he and Shawn Ray were very critical of Breon Ansley for revealing his drug protocol for the 2024 Olympia Weekend.

While the majority of hardcore athletes believe its a good thing that Breon shares what he uses to the bodybuilding world, this can also be very worrying.

Bob Cicherillo’s first question to his guest Shawn Ray was, What is the point of Breon revealing his drug protocols?

Shawn Ray was quick to answer that athletes should not reveal what’s in their medicine cabinets, believing it’s prudent to share such information.

Shawn Ray also believes that with social media today, and millions of viewers, there has to be a responsibility from athletes such as Breon Ansley on what they publish, especially when young athletes are listening religiously, always trying to find the fastest way to earn their pro card.

A very important fact that Shawn Ray mentioned is that an athlete’s personal doctor could have prescribed the safest protocol to an athlete, but that same drug prescription can kill another healthy athlete, no two people are the same.

With so many young athletes believing everything they read or watch, there is no doubt that some will try the exact same protocol that Breon Ansley revealed.

Bob Cicherillo went on to say that it’s worrying that athletes such as Breon and others like him are providing a typical “blueprint” of what drugs to take.

Cicherillo also went on to explain that Breon is not an amateur athlete, but he’s a two-time Olympia champion, meaning he has to be very careful of what he puts out there on social media.

Bob went on to say that whether Breon thinks it’s a light or harmless drug protocol, he is revealing a “blueprint” that a fan who idolizes him will most probably copy and try on himself.

What benefit is Breon going to gain from this? A few more views on YouTube? The risks are much higher than the rewards.

The microphone went back to Shawn Ray, and he made a very valid point by saying that some viewers will be thirsty for such information, the same information that you had to pay for a few years back.

The professional athletes today are not doctors, and they do not have the qualifications to recommend what they are taking. Doctors never share protocols that they give to their clients, as every single person is different.

Shawn also went on to say that it’s also becoming a trend for athletes that start to reveal their drug protocols when their careers are coming to an end, or they suffer a serious medical problem and blame it on their drug use.

Another question that was asked was, if Breon won his third Olympia title, would he have revealed his drug protocol? Most probably not.

Cicherillo made a good point by explaining that bodybuilding drugs are not the same as the drugs that your family doctor prescribes. For example, cold medicine will have how many times you can consume it throughout the day. On the other side of the fence, there is no rule on how to take performance-enhancing drugs.

Every bodybuilder, even from the 1970s, learned by experimenting on themselves and learning from people who experimented with the drugs before them. That same system is being used today.

Adding to what Bob and Shawn had to say, every popular and successful athlete should be responsible for what they reveal.

Fans always complain about why bodybuilding never went mainstream, and things such as revealing drug protocols are one of the main reasons.

While many are trying to clean up the sport, instances such as what Breon and many other influencers do, regarding revealing drug protocols, will put the sport in a dark place, when it comes to going mainstream.
