Samson Dauda – Putting it all on the line.
The 2025 Arnold Classic has come and gone, with Derek Lunsford edging past 2024 Mr. Olympia, Samson Dauda, to take home the top prize of $500,000, and the beautiful Arnold Classic trophy.
Going into the show, Samson Dauda was the clear favorite to win his second Arnold Classic title, and the current Mr. Olympia champion rarely risks his reputation to compete at a show, just four months after winning the Mr. Olympia title.
The last athlete to do this was Ronnie Coleman, when in 2000, he won the Mr. Olympia title, and the following March in 2001, Ronnie was invited to the Arnold Classic, and also won.
After winning the Mr. Olympia, the athlete is labeled as the best bodybuilder in the world, and competing at another event can have major consequences if victory is not achieved.
Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong for Samson, but not for bodybuilding
Samson Dauda is gifted with an unbeatable physique, but he also can have his flaws, which Derek Lunsford exposed at the 2025 Arnold Classic.
After winning the 2024 Mr. Olympia, and taking home $600,000 plus whatever bonuses he has in his contracts with his sponsors, Samson was a very happy man, and he should be.
Samson had just won the most prestigious bodybuilding title in the sport’s history, and has the honor of being only the 19th athlete to win the title in its 60-year history.
Samson went into the 2024 Mr. Olympia as one of the biggest and most balanced bodybuilders on the stage, and he was lucky defending champion Derek Lunsford and 2022 Mr. Olympia, Hadi Choopan were slightly off.
Dauda has one major weakness, and that is arriving at a contest with a shredded physique.
Samson has the perfect balance of size and proportion, the perfect combination to win any show, but when a competitor such as Derek or the super shredded Hadi Choopan stand next to him, the judges start to change their opinion, just as they did at the 2025 Arnold Classic.
After winning the 2024 Mr. Olympia, Samson enjoyed his recent success, and embarked on several tours, plus he announced that he was in the process of opening a new gym in the UK.
In four months, Samson did a lot of travelling amongst other things, and this will take a toll on even the best physiques in the world.
Samson put everything aside, and decided to enter the 2025 Arnold Classic, knowing he was the best in the world, and a favorite to win his second Arnold title. Also, the man who beat him to two Arnold Classic titles in 2024, Hadi Choopan, was not entering the event.
It would be an easy victory and fantastic pay day of $500,000 for Samson, right? Unfortunately, not, as Samson did not notice Derek Lunsford was hungry for victory, and to prove Samson can be beaten.
For the bodybuilding fan and the sport in general, Samson competing was perfect.
Bodybuilding fans are excited about the sport, and are now looking forward to the 2025 Olympia Weekend more than ever.
Mr. Olympia reign only lasted four months

Samson Dauda is Mr. Olympia, and nobody can ever take that away from him, but what is different is that he is not going into the 2025 Mr. Olympia as undefeated.
In previous years, the Mr. Olympia defending champion would not compete, putting all his energy into defending his title the following year, and as well as doing the job of being an ambassador to the Olympia brand.
Unfortunately for Samson, his reign as Mr. Olympia in reality only lasted four months, after he was defeated by Derek Lunsford.
At the 2025 Mr. Olympia, Samson will now be going into the show as an athlete that lost against Derek Lunsford.
So who is the favorite going into the 2025 Mr. Olympia? Defending champion Samson Dauda, 2025 Arnold Classic Champion, Derek Lunsford, or 2022 Mr. Olympia Hadi Choopan?
Hadi Choopan decided not to defend his 2024 Arnold Classic victory, and focus on the 2025 Mr. Olympia.
In every preview or discussion about the 2025 Mr. Olympia, Derek will have the upper hand, in being labeled the man to beat, rather than the defending Mr. Olympia champion Samson Dauda.
How can Samson Dauda win the 2025 Mr. Olympia?

Samson Dauda is not into the 2025 Mr. Olympia, knowing that he is not the clear favorite, even though he won in 2024.
This is a different situation for the defending Mr. Olympia defending champion, and for the Olympia Weekend organizers themselves.
The marketing campaign has already started for the 2025 Mr. Olympia, and Samson is not the focus of the campaign. Derek Lunsford and Hadi Choopan are both given the same exposure on their latest advert.
Samson now knows that while size is important, he needs to arrive sharper, or he will lose his title to the smaller, but shredded Hadi Choopan, or Derek Lunsford.
All is not lost for Samson, as if Derek or Hadi are slightly off, he will be a sure winner, even if he’s not as conditioned as they are.
Bodybuilding fans can now look forward to a great build-up to the 2025 Olympia Weekend.
