Evolutionofbodybuilding.net‘s next Featured Athlete is Malta’s bodybuilding star, Roderick Theuma.
Kevin Grech, the owner of Evolutionofbodybuilding.net, has followed Roderick’s career from his humble beginnings to becoming one of IFBB‘s top amateur bodybuilders.
When speaking to Roderick, you will immediately notice his love for bodybuilding, always discussing the sport in detail.
What is special about Roderick is his willingness to keep learning. Even after dedicating his life to the sport for over 25 years, many believe that he knows it all, but on the contrary, Roderick is still open to learning more about the sport he loves.
Born on 3 November 1982, Roderick’s love of bodybuilding started at the young age of 16. Roderick immediately was hooked, and trained non-stop until he stepped on stage, four years later at the age of 20.
Roderick has been competing consistently for the past 24 years, rarely taking time off. The Maltese bodybuilding star, has managed to earn fantastic results in local contests in Malta, and managed to compete against the best in the world, representing Malta, at IFBB’s European, Mediterranean, and Arnold Classic Europe Amateur championships.
Competing regularly from the age of 20, Roderick managed to gain a lot of experience, and his physique matured to the point where he could stand shoulder-to-shoulder against Europe’s best athletes.
Everything started to come together for the Maltese star in 2018. With over 20 years of training under his belt and 16 years of experience on the competitive stage, Roderick started to earn prestigious results, locally and internationally.

2021 IFBB Malta International Grand Prix – Silver Medal in Open Class at under 90kg. Awarded second IFBB Elite Pro Card*.
2021 Malta National Championships – National and Overall Title.
* Roderick is eligible to activate his pro status to compete as an IFBB Elite Pro, but he has decided that he would like to continue to improve his results at prestigious events such as the Arnold Classic Europe Amateur, IFBB Amateur European, and World Championships.
Just as in 2020, Roderick decided not to compete in 2022, focusing on improving his physique for the 2023 contest season.
Not only does Roderick focus on building the best aesthetically pleasing physique, but presents his physique with majestic posing routines. Bodybuilding fans that have been following the sport for the past 30 or 40 years, will appreciate Roderick’s goal to perfect the finest details of his physique and posing routine.
Diet and Training
Since the start of his bodybuilding career, Roderick has never been out of shape. Never moving away from his strict diet, Roderick is not only 100% dedicated to his training, but he is also 100% focused on his diet.
Offseason Diet
Roderick explained that in the offseason, consumes an average of 45-60 grams of protein per meal. The protein consists of beef, fish, eggs and whey protein. In 2022, Roderick removed chicken as a source of protein from his diet.
In regards to his carbohydrate intake, Roderick focuses on consuming 100-150 grams of carbs in each meal. Roderick’s carb meals consist of rice, oats, cream of rice, or pasta.
Fats come from olive oil and coconut oil, while Roderick prefers asparagus as greens.
Contest Diet
During his contest prep, Roderick keeps his protein intake basically the same, but his carb intake is reduced to 1/3 per meal and eventually less, as the contest date gets closer.
Roderick explained that he usually does carb refeeds sporadically, but in 2023, he is experimenting with one high-carb meal on Saturday, which consists of sushi.
Training Routine
Roderick explains that the muscle should be trained using compound exercises. The compound exercises consist of various bench press variations, squats, barbell shoulder presses, chins, barbell rows, good mornings, and deadlifts.
Repetitions consist of 8 reps for a couple of sets, then they go up to 8 reps for 3 sets.
Roderick trains legs twice a week, with one session focusing on density. Roderick then prefers to use machines such as hack squats, leg press,es and leg curls during the second session.
Hobbies
Roderick loves traveling, especially traveling to locations with clear blue waters and beautiful beaches. Luckily, the sport of bodybuilding consists of a lot of traveling, and Roderick has absolutely no problem with that.
A new hobby/project related to the sport of bodybuilding that Roderick has started is coaching.
Roderick explains that he is immensely satisfied in sharing what he has learned over the past 25 years.
Seeing his clients achieve their personal goals on and off the stage is a fantastic feeling, Roderick explains.
Roderick is not only focused on the hardcore bodybuilder, but he also takes pride in helping his clients gain muscle, or lose excess fat to live a healthier life.
