Chris Cormier and Abdullah Alotaibi have heated debate over Rubiel Mosquera

Chris Cormier and Abdullah Alotaibi have heated debate over Rubiel Mosquera.

Bodybuilding legend and now trainer, Chris Cormier, has been supporting new bodybuilding star, Rubiel Mosquera, since he won his pro card with the IFBB Pro League.

Rubiel started his career with the IFBB as an amateur, turned pro, and competed within the IFBB Elite Pro league.

Competing at various events with the IFBB Elite Pro, Rubiel was still finding his way, as a pro bodybuilder.

It was not an easy task for Rubiel, as he had to compete against IFBB Elite Pro’s top stars, such as Michal Krizio, Mika Sihvonen, Ilya Lukovets, and many more.

During his competitive days with the IFBB Elite Pro, Rubiel was a consistent top-five finisher.

Rubiel Mosquera’s IFBB Elite Pro Results

2019 IFBB Elite Pro South America – 2nd place
2019 IFBB Physique of America Cup – 1st place
2019 IFBB Elite Pro World Championships – 3rd place
2022 IFBB Elite Pro – Mr. & Ms. Europe Pro – 3rd place
2022 IFBB Elite Pro World Championships – 4th place

Not long after IFBB’s President Dr. Rafael Santonja, helped him secure a contract with his present sponsor, Rubiel decided to switch to the NPC. While many viewed this move as a sign of disrespect, the IFBB and IFBB President Dr. Rafael Santonja believe every athlete decides what is best for his own career and life.

Rubiel knew that switching over to the NPC would bring him more attention and with that, criticism.

Immediately after Rubiel moved over to the NPC, he teamed up with Chris Cormier, who continues to help Rubiel behind the scenes with his training and posing.

Rubiel earned his pro status with the IFBB Pro League at the 2023 EVLS Prague event, and then went on to compete as a pro in the pro event on the same day, placing third behind Michael Krizo and the winner Samson Dauda.

Cormier believes that Rubiel could be the next Ronnie Coleman, comparing him to Ronnie Coleman during discussions on popular podcasts, such as The Menace Podcast, hosted by Dennis James, and with regular guest Milos Sarcev.

In one of the most recent episodes of The Menace Podcast, one of the best coaches in the bodybuilding industry, Abdullah Alotaibi, was invited to discuss the 2024 Dubai Pro. The discussion heated up immediately.

Chris Cormier vs Abdullah Alotaibi

During the discussion on The Menace Podcast, Dennis James asked Abdullah what he thought about the 2024 Dubai Pro event, but Abdullah immediately started to talk about Chris Cormier’s star athlete Rubiel Mosquera.

Abdullah did not waste any time, and immediately let everybody on the show know that he believes that Rubiel has no chance of placing in the top six at the Mr. Olympia, and ih he is lucky, he will place in the top ten.

Chris Cormier was not happy with what he heard and he again, started to compare the career of Rubiel to when Ronnie Coleman was still new to the pro ranks. Cormier did not convince Abdullah, as he replied by saying that Rubiel can never be compared to Ronnie Coleman.

The tension started to rise when Chris Cormier wanted recognition from Abdullah for helping him with some of his clients. Abdullah has an impressive resume, with over 70 pro victories, including Brandon Curry’s Mr. Olympia victory in 2019.

Rubiel Mosquera – The Debate Continues

As it stands, the top bodybuilding pundits still debate if Rubiel has what it takes to win a pro show and qualify for the Mr. Olympia.

Rubiel is a freak, and there is no denying that, but he does not have the shape of Mr. Olympi Derek Lunsford, Hadi Choopan, Samson Dauda, Behrouz Tabani, William Bonac, Martin Fitzwater, and many others.

Rubiel has incredible leg development, but he must work very hard on his condition, and at the same time, bring up his upper body development.

In the next year or two, if Rubiel continues to make the right improvements, he will eventually win a pro event and qualify for the Mr. Olympia. Winning a pro event would be an incredible achievement, but as everybody knows, the Mr. Olympia is a much more difficult task, competing against the best athletes in the world.
