Sugar vs The Technician: Chris Aceto calls out Shawn Ray

Sugar vs The Technician: Chris Aceto calls out Shawn Ray

When we thought nothing exciting was happening in the bodybuilding world, bodybuilding legend Shawn Ray is back to speaking his mind, and Chris Aceto was unhappy.

On the latest edition of the VOB Podcast, Shawn Ray seems to have got himself into some hot water with dietician Chris Aceto, about his new partnership with 2023 Mr. Olympia, Derek Lunsford.

In the last few weeks, Derek Lunsford had to find a new coach, after Hany Rambod decided to step back from coaching high-level athletes and focus on his family and businesses.

Being one of the best bodybuilders in the world, it did not take long for Derek to hook up with Chris Cormier, as his training coach, and just recently with Chris Aceto, as his dietician.

Chris Cormier has very high hopes for Lunsford, believing that he can defeat reigning Mr. Olympia, Samson Dauda, at the 2025 Arnold Classic.

While Cormier is known for praising his athletes just like he did with Rubiel Mosquera, who is now nowhere to be seen, it remains to be seen if he has success with Lunsford.

Shawn Ray believes Derek Lunsford does not need a “Guru” or a “Coach”

On the Voice of Bodybuilding Podcast, Shawn Ray and Bob Cicherillo analysed the situation with Derek Lunsford, and if he needs a coach or guru, in other words, a dietician.

Shawn Ray was quick to explain that an athlete at the level of Derek Lunsford, should take care of himself, and not rely on a coach or dietician. Shawn continued to explain that Derek is not an amateur and one of the most successful bodybuilders in the world.

Rather than having a coach and dietician, Shanw believes Derek needs a solid training partner, or he should team up with top athletes such as Samson Dauda, or Martin Fitzwater, for some grueling workouts, pushing each other to the limit.

Shawn also explained that modern-day athletes are hesitant to trust their own instincts, and prefer to rely on somebody else to plan their diet or training routine.

Chris Aceto calls out Shawn Ray

Not long after the VOB podcast was published, Chris Aceto did not take long to call out Shawn Ray.

Chris Aceto is known for his success with Jay Cutler, and the late Shawn Rhoden, who both had great success by winning the Mr. Olympia, and several other major titles.

Chris Aceto, published two short sentences, “Why couldn’t Chad’s 16-year-old just finish the job?”, and he also said, “I think if Shawn Ray had a coach he would have won an Olympia. Or at least an Arnold.”

In regards to the comments related to Chad Nicholl’s son, Dominic, he confronted Shawn Ray at the 2023 Arnold Classic, for the several comments he made about his father’s methods, and how several of his athletes allegedly had some health issues.

Chad Nicholls Shawn Ray

Shawn Ray has been very vocal about some methods from the so-called “Gurus” of the bodybuilding industry, saying that when something bad goes wrong with the athlete, and they suffer some serious health issues, they disappear.

Getting back to Chris Aceto, Shawn said that while Chris is one of the most popular dieticians, he does not have a perfect record, and failed with some athletes.

Chris Aceto is not known for reacting to certain comments, but Shawn Ray seems to have pushed him to the edge, making him wish that Dominic Nicholls rough him up.

The bodybuilding world reacts to Chris Aceto’s comments

Seconds after Chris Aceto published his comments, the majority of bodybuilding stars, agreed with Chris, calling out Shawn Ray, as they usually do when Shawn speaks his mind.

Regardless of how much hate is thrown towards Shawn Ray, it has never stopped him, and as it looks, it never will.

While Bob Cicherillo tried to stay on the fence, he was dragged into this, and will surely face the wrath of some athletes because of this.

Is Shawn Ray right?

Shawn Ray has been very vocal about coaches and dieticians throughout his career in the bodybuilding industry.

We all can agree that Shawn Ray is consistent, and we all know what he believes when it comes to coaches and dieticians, and the way they handle their athletes when something goes seriously wrong.

Shawn is very correct when he says, that the majority of dieticians, or “Gurus”, allegedly do not have any qualifications, especially when it comes to recommending what PEDs to use. Some athletes have allegedly had some serious health problems due to these protocols, and nobody took responsibility.

Shawn is on record saying that the bodybuilding dietician learns by experimenting on athletes or himself, and if everything works out well, everybody is happy, but if everything goes bad, the guru is nowhere to be seen.

If an athlete arrives to the point that he wins the Mr. Olympia or Arnold Classic, one would believe that they should know how to train and handle their diet.

If we go back to the 70s, and up to the 90s, the top athletes trained together, and helped each other out, never needing a dietician. Some might have used a coach at the gym for several training sessions, but they did the majority of prep on their own.

This will surely not be the end of this debate, and Evolutionofbodybuilding.net will keep all our readers up-to-date with the Chris Aceto vs Shawn Ray story.
